Tod Township EMS/Fire Protection

EMS Coverage:

Effective September 1, 2023, Wyandot East Fire District (WEFD) cannot provide primary EMS coverage for Tod Township. See WEFD letter below.

Effective January 1, 2024, Tod Township's primary EMS coverage is provided by Crawford County West Joint Ambulance District (CCWJAD)

Fire Coverage:

Fire coverage will continue to be provided by Wyandot East Fire District.

Dear Elected Township Officials,

The Wyandot East Fire board has come to the unfortunate decision that we can no longer provide primary emergency medical coverage for its coverage area. This area includes Tod Township in Crawford County Ohio. Effective September 1, 2023, Wyandot East EMS will no longer provide primary EMS coverage for the village of Nevada, Eden, Antrim, and Tod Townships. The residents of Wyandot County will continue to receive EMS services from Wyandot County EMS. However, when staffing is available, Wyandot East EMS will support the primary EMS agency to assist where applicable. Over the last several years the Wyandot East EMS has faced the same staffing issues that plague the nation's volunteer service. Although we have tried our best to remedy the situation, it simply is no longer sustainable to be a primary EMS response agency for the district. We would like to reiterate that this decision was a last resort decision. Attempts to remedy the solution with increased stipends for volunteer personal and more staffing has not provided adequate responses that the citizens deserve.

In regards to coverage for Fire protection, The Wyandot East Fire District is bound by a tax levy and will continue and remain the primary fire response provider in all areas of Wyandot East Fire District. The Fire Department maintains an appropriate staffing level to provide service to the citizens within its service area.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience, but have exhausted all of our options in attempt to provide the best care and service the citizens deserve.
